How to organise your career search
We all know the job market is tough but there's no way you'd want to live at home forever, right? The 'Bank of Mum
& Dad' isn't an option that anyone with an ounce of self respect wants to rely on any longer than is necessary either. So, here are our top tips for getting yourself set up to get a great graduate job.
Get organised with your career search and track
your applications carefully; it can be tricky remembering all those
website passwords, careers events and graduate scheme closing dates and deadlines. Download our free tracking template below and stay ahead of the game.
Get ahead of the pack. Don't leave applications to the last hours of an online deadline. Remember, the early bird catches the worm and recruiters will have much more time and the inclination to review your details if you submit it early (not to mention the fact that you'll actually look keen to work for them).
Bookmark your favourite careersites. Once you've checked out all the most suitable websites and resources for your career needs, set up a bespoke 'MyCareer' folder in the browser toolbar on your computer and save all your favourites to it. That way you won't keep reinventing the wheel or miss any important deadlines.
Register for job email alerts, newsletters and Twitter feeds with all the key graduate recruitment sites such as Prospects and Milkround and some of the less well known niche sector ones such as Gradcracker. Set up a LinkedIn account and follow the companies you're interested in and join their Facebook Fan pages if they have them. You'll find many more sources of job leads in our directory of Graduate career sites A - M and Graduate career sites N - Z. If you follow us on Twitter you'll find our list of useful graduate job feeds and information sources just waiting for you to get started here.
